So, that last post wasn't true. Here's what really happened.
Monday was the long awaited day for us. It seems like most of our work went into preparing for this day.
Our thought was that if the church was not united across tribal boundaries we couldn't expect others to be. We had met with the pastors from the Kisii side and the Kalenjin side separately, to discuss peace and what had happened. Both seemed willing to meet with the others, so we planned a meeting for the 30th. This was the big one. This was where the pastors from one side would hopefully be willing to work with pastors from the other side.
It didn't go like we expected though. The meeting was supposed to go from 9 till 4, and by 10:30 only two pastors had shown up. We began to get nervous that it wasn't going to happen. By 11:30, only pastors from the Kisii side had shown up. Clair and Clyde were our guest speakers, and they could only be there on that day. Finally, past 12, they showed up. Clair Good spoke to them briefly, focused on getting them to talk, and listen to each other, in some exercises. The holy spirit was definitely in those conversations. By the time we broke for lunch, there was tangible excitement in the air. Something was going to happen.
We came back, had a few short talks on principles of peace and reconciliation and such, but then went straight into the founding of a pastor's fellowship, with the purpose of churches from different denominations working together to serve the community and bring about peace and reconciliation.
By the end of the day, we knew God had moved in a big way, to bring all these men together from hostile sides to work for peace - it was just incredible.
We will meet with them one last time on Friday to share some ideas for organization, but they will be on their own after that. We're glad - it seems that something that we have helped to start will have a life of it's own and continue after we are gone.
Praises:
-The pastor's fellowship was a success!
-Men are stepping up to help at the church.
-We're fairly relatively healthy
Requests:
-Safe travels to Nairobi this week.
-That a meeting in Nairobi for George's well-being after we leave would go well.
-Various plagues and infestations of gnats, cockroaches, bees, wasps, and other assorted vermin.
God Bless you,
Stefan
